Chiapas, Mexico - A group of Guatemalan coffee pickers sort through thousands of coffee beans they have collected since the early morning. They must separate the unripe green cherries (used to make lower quality coffee) from the mature red cherries, which are processed into high quality Arabica coffee. On average, coffee pickers in Chiapas earn 80 pesos (5 euros) per day, based on volume picked, a rate higher than the wages attainable in their native Guatemala.
